Plan your bathroom

A bathroom is very much more than merely a picture of the finished results. What are the thoughts behind it? How do the needs differ from one family to the next? And not least: How do you set about when the time comes for you to create your very own, unique bathroom? Our advice is – give it serious thought. What is most important to you? You will find here a few important things to think about.

Colour and form

Colours make such a great impact on the feel of your bathroom. The darker and warmer the colour – the smaller will the bathroom feel. Avoid dark colours in small rooms, particularly in combination with a light-coloured floor. Contrasts give life to the bathroom. Choose calm and light background colours for colourful and lustrous furniture. On the other hand, light furniture comes into its own against stronger, more daring background colours.

Light and sound

Do you want to be able to turn a dimmer smoothly from an enticing atmosphere of subdued lighting to strong lights for your daily work in the bathroom? You may perhaps be able to use natural light from outdoors, or possibly create effects by admitting light through a glass-block wall. And the sound ... you may want to arrange a film projector or a complete stereo system so that you will be able to listen to your favourite music while relaxing in the bath.

Your bathroom now and in the future

The bathroom is not merely the place were you brush your teeth and shower. It is also a room for everyday luxury, where you can ‘spoil yourself’, relax and add to your quality of life. So think big and far ahead when making your choice. In addition to the materials having to withstand moisture for many years ahead, their functionality must suit a multitude of circumstances – additions to the family, or children growing up and leaving home ...

Room to move

Do you need a large area in the bathroom, or can the furniture be allowed to occupy space? You may perhaps have only a few square metres to play with. Or you may be fortunate enough to have a bigger bathroom or may have scope for making it bigger by taking out some walls and converting it into a large, roomy spa. If you want more space in the bathroom, choose furniture with rounded shape and curved corners, such as Radie and Milanova.

Open or enclosed storage

Storage space is one of the most important practical features of the bathroom, particularly for families with several children. What and how much do you actually keep in the bathroom? Do you want to have room for more? Some things you will no doubt want concealed behind attractive and stylish doors, while others can very well remain open to the eye. Find the right combination of furniture that gives maximum storage capacity on the smallest possible floor area.

How about the cost?

A bathroom is seldom a modest investment ... On the other hand, it is a room that you must like and enjoy using for many years ahead. Where the fixtures are durable and stay attractive year after year, even though you may be using them several times a day. Decide how much you can spend on the bathroom. Then consider the things to which you want to give priority. Tiles from floor to ceiling or wallpaper? Quarry tiles, underfloor heating or perhaps a wooden floor in some parts of the bathroom? Shower or luxurious massage bathtub? Remember that quality pays in the long run.

How much time do you have?

Delays in the work on the bathroom are often problematic. How long will the whole family be prepared to live with the in-laws or the summer cottage while waiting for the bathroom to be completed? You are well advised to order all parts of the bathroom from the same supplier. If you choose Svedbergs, you and our salesman together will decide on a date. All materials will then be delivered, and the workmen will be able to start on the appointed date.
